SUMMER, SR. YEAR ANTICIPATION

4.26.2004

6:53 PM

I finally was formally asked by Allen today to be the head of the tech. group for Chapel Leadership/the school. For a while Mrs. T has been hinting at me to be the leader since I'm going to be a senior and have that knowledge, but Allen has been hinting that Sayles is doing it because he's going to be here longer. I guess Allen found out today of Mrs. T's plans. I don't care about the lateness in this information. It would've happened sometime, whether it be at the end of this year or first day back next year.

I guess my summer is pretty much planned out and it's going to be busy as usual. I got my application for Los Po back today so I'll be turning that in soon so I can take that brainless CIS50 class. I'm still wondering how i'll get the work done while I'm on vacation. I also got my work permit back so it's official I'll be doing fair this year. I can't work overtime though, as much as I want to. I guess the law is a 40 hour max. week. Fair coincided at first with our trip to HK. My mom didn't know that fair was bumped up a week, so it ends on the following Sunday (whether it was all my fault or partially my fault is up to debate tonight over dinner). I'm pretty sure I'm still going and if that's the case then it's an extra $350 pp to change the flights, hotels, etc. If not then I'll be home alone all week. This fall, I'll be taking an online course called Computer Forensics. Hopefully it'll be good.

I got a new electric guitar from my friend this past weekend. For $60, he sold me a Squier Stratocaster w/ soft case. They say they're decent guitars, so I'm happy. I need an amp now. I'm considering a Behringer V-Tone GM800 for $60. I need to sell my classical guitar first, though. Anyone interested?

With tests coming up and rarely anything new under the (hot) sun to blog, I may go into the weekly blogging cycle. The blogs may be more interesting and plus, it helps the year go by quicker (6 more posts until the end of the school year I think)

Hmm, I want to say a profound philosophical note of the week, but I can't think of any. I guess I'll list some profound statements (these really are cool) from the most loved and the most hated man in the High Tech. world, Bill Gates:

11 RULES FOR LIFE:

RULE 1: Life is not fair, get used to it.

RULE 2: The world won’t care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

RULE 3: You will NOT make $40,000 a year right out of high school. You won’t be vice president with a car phone until you earn both.

RULE 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesn’t have tenure.

RULE 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger-flipping; they called it opportunity.

RULE 6: If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so don’t whine a about your mistakes, learn from them.

RULE 7: Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents’ generation, try "delousing" the closet in your own room.

RULE 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools, they have abolished failing grades; they’ll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

RULE 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.

RULE 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

RULE 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one.

TECH TV THOUGHTS

4.19.2004

7:16 PM

Man, I guess I came home to even more bad news. Actually, most of this is old news, but it's still pretty sad.

First off, I read today that Leo Laporte left TechTV, which really angered me. I guess I wasn't the only one, because I read later that due to the overwhelming number of petitions, he's back on. Still though, he's no longer hosting The Screen Savers, which is a huge bummer. He's still doing Call For Help, but with the merger, who knows what will become of that show, or any of the other shows. At least he's back.

You know that TechTV is going to be taken over by Comcast and merged with G4, that virtually unknown station for gamers. I have a feeling since Comcast is the big corporation while Vulcan (TechTV's parent company) is not as big, Comcast is going to get the better end. Who knows what'll happen to TechTV's programming. They've already decided to relocate the offices to LA, the studio in SF may be affected. I fear the new TechTV is going to be games, games, games, games, games, games, games, games, TECH, games, games, games, games, games, games, games... I at least hope they'll keep Screen Savers, Call for Help, TechLive, and X-PLAY. If those shows go, sadly, "Tech"TV may very well lose my viewership.

Happy Easter!

"The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay."

-Matthew 28:5-6

BZZBACK

4.08.2004

6:14 PM

How exciting! I come back from an intense APUSH study session late into the day and receive a package from BzzBack that contains none other than a 12 pack of cereal!

The real purpose of my shipment is to "Bzz" other people and get their reaction about the cereal and promote it overall by giving them a sample of the cereal, changing my buddy icon to a Kellogg's logo, watching a DVD, and saying marbit randomly for a day (not sure how they chose that word). But anyways, after each action, you file a report to BzzAgent and you get points, and after a ton of reports later, you'll earn enough points to get something, like a giant box of cereal. If you wait even longer, you might be able to get a mini iPod or something, but that won't happen for a LONG time unless I really go crazy with this program. But hey, I got time. You get free stuff like food, you slowly get closer, so what the heck? So now I've got mini boxes of Smorz in my pantry to eat at my bidding. If you want to join, go to BzzAgent.com. I want to get more points, so I'll do my little promo now:

Have you ever tried a new cereal called Kellogg's Smorz? They give you the great taste of Smore's without the outdoors! It's made from the same great company that makes Rice Crispies and Frosted Flakes. The cereal is whole wheat, graham cracker squares covered in tasty chocolate and sugar, mixed with mini chocolate mashmallow swirls. And, it has all the vitamins and minerals you need so it's part of a balanced diet. I personally think the cereal is awesome, so I encourage you to try some out for yourself. I have some samples, so contact me if you want to try some yourself. This stuff rocks!

Okay, enough of that. I would appreciate your input, honestly and not. Helps me earn more points.

OLD NEWS HOT OFF THE PRESS

4.02.2004

11:48 PM

MY WEEK...
sucked. I caught a cold Tuesday and have been miserable ever since. It's so hard to concentrate in class. THANK GOD the weekend is here.

MY DIGICAM...
sucks. 3 weeks in a row, whenever I bring it to SOS to take pics and ONLY when I bring it to SOS it stops working. First thing I do when I get home is whip it out of my pocket and voila, it works! Strange little piece of machinery if you ask me.

MY EXPERT GUIDES...
I got a $100 Amazon.com gift certificate today!!! woohoo!!! My Scouting guide's ETA is about one week. My new user's guide is still up and running.

MY RANDOM TIDBITS...
I was surfing my friends' blogs a few minutes ago and found a link to another acquaintance's blog on his comment box, which is FILLED with comments from friends unlike my comment box, and I stumbled upon another acquaintance's blog, which had those webrings (it was a Xanga). The webring was and FBC webring, which I thought was cool, so I clicked on it to see if I knew anyone. I knew OF a few people, but they don't know me so it doesn't matter anyways, but a few clicks later and I stumble upon a CBM CAMP blogring! Had about 73 members, some of which I knew OF, one or two which actually knew me or probably OF ME, but it was sort've cool (http://www.xanga.com/blogrings/blogring.asp?id=51183) HEY, how come I never knew of this. Wait, that's right. No one knows of me, few know me. I usually found out about these things on my own. And I use blogspot, not Xanga, so I can't join the ring. I still like Blogger better though. Xanga's too restrictive. So if you went to camp and have a Xanga, I guess you can join the ring, without regards to my services. And if you use LJ or Blogger like me, well, we can start our own ring or something. Just, well, make sure you know OF me.
